Baptism for Infants and Children Under the Age of 7 

Parents who wish to have their child baptized must: 

• Provide a copy of their child's birth certificate and complete a Baptism Register Information Form (form available at parish office).

•  Register parents and godparents for a pre-baptism class.  Parents and godparents must attend the pre-baptism class before the baptism.

• For each godparent, provide a godparent suitability form signed by the Pastor of the godparent's parish, and sealed with the parish seal.  (See "Requirements for Godparent (Sponsor) below.)

• Provide a copy of the Baptism Class Certificate of Completion to Renee Storey prior to the Baptism.

• Select a date and time for the baptism.  We are scheduling baptisms to take place following 8:30 a.m. Mass on Saturdays or 12:00 p.m. Mass on Sundays.  Baptisms are not scheduled to take place during Lent.

Pre-Baptism Class

Our pre-baptism class takes place once a month.  You must register in advance to take the class.  Please call 386-574-2131 for registration information.

Godparent (Sponsor) Requirements 

There may be one or two sponsors.  If there are two, one must be male (godfather) and the other female (godmother). 

At least one sponsor must be a fully initiated Catholic in good standing with the Church.   

A baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community may participate as a witness of the baptism (Christian witness) together with a Catholic sponsor.

The Catholic Sponsor must be at least 16 years of age, baptized, confirmed, and have received the Eucharist, be living an upright life, have no penalties (e.g., divorced and remarried, or left the Church), and cannot be the child’s parent. If the godparent is married, his or her marriage must have taken place in the Catholic Church.  Sponsors must attend a pre-baptism Class and provide a Suitability for Godparent Document/Letter signed by their Pastor. 

Baptism for Child/Children Over the age of 7 

According to Canon Law (97.2) “the age of reason” is considered to be 7 years old.  Can. 852 identifies, “The provisions of the canons on adult baptism apply to all those who, being no longer infants, have reached the use of reason.”  Thus, the church directs us to catechize these older children and guide them through the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) process that leads them toward full initiation as Catholics.  For baptisms of child/children over the age of 7, please contact Brendan Dudley, Director of Evangelization.
